  ABOUT YOU
When did you first find out that you wanted to be scientist? I was that kind of kid who wanted to save the dolphins and the oceans, then I wandered into economics (for my degree); so I became an environmental economist.
Tell us something about your background and main research interests I studied Environmental and Natural Resource Economics for my Masters degree, and I am interested in applying the ecosystem services framework to marine planning and the designation of marine protected areas. In my job, I have mostly been working on projects related to the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
What do you like most about your work? There are strong links between the projects I work on so it is good to apply what I do and learn from one project to another. I also get to work with experts whom I can learn from.
  ABOUT THE PROJECT
What is your role in DEVOTES project? I am involved in Work Package 2, examining the socio-economic implications of achieving GES. Currently, I am examining the cost-effectiveness of MSFD monitoring programs in the UK. The next task is to do a cost-assessment of management measures that will be implemented to achieve GES.
How do you think your work in DEVOTES will contribute to the implementation of the EU marine strategy framework directive? Results of my work will inform policy makers about the trade-offs between different policy options for the MSFD. For example, the costs vs the benefits of implementing a specific management option. This will help them make decisions that can maximise well-being and ensure that the marine environment is sustainably managed.
What´s the relevance for your institute and country to participate in DEVOTES? Results of my work will inform policy makers about the trade-offs between different policy options for the MSFD. For example, the costs vs the benefits of implementing a specific management option. This will help them make decisions that can maximise well-being and ensure that the marine environment is sustainably managed.
What´s your recommended reading list for someone wanting to know more about marine environment and DEVOTES topic? The DEVOTES website is the first place to go to for more information about the project. It provides information about the project aims and deliverables, and it also contains links to other relevant websites. The marine environment is quite a broad topic so I cannot recommend a single reading material, but a trip to the seaside for some interactive learning is always fun!
