Happy International Day of Biological Diversity 2016!

The United Nations declared May 22 the International Day of Biological Diversity to increase public awareness of biodiversity issues and to generate a greater understanding of the worth of Nature.

This date was chosen to commemorate the signing of the Convention on Biological Diversity in 1992. Every year this Day is dedicated to a different aspect of biodiversity. The theme for 2016 is “Mainstreaming Biodiversity; Sustaining People and their Livelihoods”.

DEVOTES scientists celebrate the biodiversity everyday, DEVOTES aims to better understand the relationships between pressures from human activities and climate and their effects on marine biodiversity.

After 4 years of research, DEVOTES scientists will present their results and discuss on the importance of marine monitoring and of marine biodiversity, as key of healthy and productive seas at the DEVOTES Final Conference (18-19 October 2016, Brussels).
