DEVOTES presents its recommendations for the implementation of the MSFD

DEVOTES has published its first report providing recommendations for the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.

This report summarises the main lessons learned from DEVOTES tasks that aim to be valuable for supporting the second cycle of the implementation of the MSFD Directive and define Good Environmental Status. The report covers overarching issues and provides specific comments and recommendations on some of the MSFD biodiversity descriptors: D1 – Biological diversity, D2 – Non-indigenous species, D4 – Food webs and D6 – Sea-floor integrity.

“DEVOTES recommendations for the implementation of the Marine Framework Directive“ document aim is to facilitate the transfer of knowledge from Science to Policy, by ensuring that the DEVOTES main scientific results are available to inform the second cycle of the implementation of the Directive, as included in the general objectives of the project.

DEVOTES scientists identified shortcomings and inconsistencies in the current MSFD proposals and highlighted scientific and technical developments that can contribute to clarify identified issues and overcome problems. The main objective is to support the technical and scientific review of these documents and contribute to the next phases of the MSFD implementation.
